Maths Strategies

In Room 18 this week we have been working out multiplication problems using 2 different strategies. We had to choose out of 2 questions 28 x 6 or 36 x 18 (which I did)

This is the way I sorted this problem out  

  Strategy 1            36 x 18 = ?          Strategy 2.

+(36 x 2)= 72                                             10 x 36 = 360 

36 x 20= 720                                            8 x 36 = 288

720-72= 648                                             288 + 368= 648

                              36 x 18 = 648
