Multiplication Strategy

In Room 18 we have been learning how to do some multiplication questions using two different strategies, there is the strategy place value and rounding and compensating. Here is a place value strategy that I did with my maths partner.

"The Legend classes (when combined with their buddy classes) had 48 children in each of the four houses how many children altogether?

(I know that there is eight classes altogether including buddy classes)

48 x 8= ?

40 x 8 = 320 

8 x 8 = 64

320 + 64 = 384
